I'm in the process of buying an O'day 26 and the hull number appears to be #81. However, it is a 1984 model and according to the "Unofficial O'day website" only 87 were made from 1984-1986. I've also noted that there are 11 owners listed on your O'day 26 owners list that have 1985 models, so I know that if my hull number is right, at least 92 were built! Any one know the right scoop on the number of 26's built and in what years?

26 Is A Great Boat

Hi Dick, You will really enjoy the 26, but one area that needs to be checked is the chainplates. If your boat is going to leak, it will be here first. Post some pics after you get her set us as your boat. I have seen the number listed as being 88 produced. Ben Allen Montgomery, AL "Latte Dah" O'Day 26

O-26 Owner number 68

I have noticed on other website lists that there is the number of boats built that year and the number of boats built for the class. Class being the O-26. I think it was mentioned that the number in the HIN number is the number in the line of all boats built that year by the manufacturer. Therefore, I was the 68th boat built in 1984, but, maybe I was only the 12th O-26 built that year. Since I am the 5th owner, I don't have the build sheet or the original sails that may have had the class number on it. Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Ben and Jim for your info. Ben, you're right about those chainplates- that the only area that I see signs of leakage. One side appears still active. How does one effectively repair this problem? Also, this is a Silver Anniversary model- are all 1984 o'Days? It seems to me I saw one 1984 that did not have the medallion. Is there any other differences besides the plate?
