How many miles

My wife and I go out every weekend on Buzzards Bay from Mid April thru the end of Oct, including a couple of trips to the islands, so my guess we log about a 1000 nm, but I'm going to keep track of the miles this season to see what we actually travel

We average13 hours a week X 5.5 months =312 hrs X 3.5mph=1092 miles. Good argument for a faster boat.

Interesting that the mileage of posters is in a relativly narrow range (1000-2000 miles).

I wonder what the average of all boats in a typical marina would be? Less. Or a would a few real movers without the time to post pull up the average?

Thinwater, I try to go out every weekend during the sailing season here - 6-7 months. I see lots of boats in my marina that seem to get get much less use. And I had a big jump in my mileage in 2012 because I broke the code of single-handing and was much more comfortable with sailing alone.

This is a great question! My log book is probably frozen to the shelf under the chart table, (Great Lakes winter) however if this question is still up , when the @#$@#%&$%#$ weather breaks, in a few months I reckon, "I shall ascertain the answer and report it to my proper officer" now I would like to know just for my self as well! thanks for the good question, eh matey!

I am a Great Lakes sailor so long single leg passages are short relative to blue water boaters. Last summer we put about eleven hundred total miles on our boat in Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. All port to port but it was all good.

Hmmm sounds like wave heights and wind speed.....

Well, we left Astoria Or around April, stopped at La Paz for a bit, down to the Marquises, Tuamotus, Morea, Bora Bora, then out to Tonga just before Thanksgiving. I think that was around 7K, but... third or fourth time I have made that trip and I have enjoyed it each time.

I think quality beats the hell out of quantity.

Any day on the water is a good day, in my book. And as my friends tell me, just another crappy day on the Chesapeake!
