Before it will need replacing. I was talking to one manufacturer and he said a life raft will last about 12 years before it needs to be replaced whether you use it or not. Is this a line or is it true? Any body out there have a life raft that has been inspected and recertified that has some age on it?

You might prowl some of the European sites since there are broad requirements for carrying them (with some complaining on many boaters part). Anyhow, this link says 8-15 years and on another site, a warrany of 12 years was mentioned. Good luck, Rick D.

Life Raft life
I am a retired Navy Parachute Rigger and as such worked with all kinds of survival equipment.I have seen 15 year old multi-place life rafts similar to what is available to us sailors pass all the required test during scheduled maintenance with no problems. I know of one raft that was 10 years old used in a survival situation with no problem,the crew came out ok also. Bill N. S/V So Fuch Mun
