I want to replace my main Halyard, but I need to know how much line to buy. Also I think it is 3/8ths but a conformation would be nice. Thanks!

Mast or cockpit?

Based on the 'I' dimension of 40' 6" I would buy 90' if halyard at mast. I secure mine on the toerail so need the extra length. If you have the modification to take it to the cockpit, or plan to, then you will need the extra 15 feet. When I bought mine I let the Sailnet riggers advise me on the right size line. See link below.

3/8 is not a good size!

Fred: 3/8" line sounds a little small, but the real problem is cutting into your hands. If you can move up to 7/16" you may find that it is a little easier to handle. Don't know your exact measurements by we usually take a piece of line and tie it to the shackle. Run it up the mast and mark it at the deck. You now have your mast height. Now you can make your adjustments and add any length if you are bringing it back to the cockpit. I always like to add a couple of feet (always easier to cut it off) By the way www.pyacht.com has very good prices on line.

Thanks !

Thanks for your replies. The Halyard terminates at the cockpit. The line might be 7/16ths, I will have to cut off a piece and check it out. Thanks again!
