How long does 'banned' status last?

Nothing to see here, folks. Currently, there are no users on temporary bans (which typically last just a few days). Everyone has access.
well Great then, I saw Banned in the little personal box with our name etc. and I have not seen any posts from him. I am happy to hear he is out of the dog house.

Have a high regard for Stu and cannot think what would merit a temporary suspension? I would not be surprised If he did not want to come back and we would loose a consistently good contributor. I mean we are big boys here and not school children. Hope I'm here tomorrow.
We have high regard for Stu too, but rules are rules... Stu knows the rules and got a temporary vacation for choosing to ignore them. As Phil said not a big deal...

Yes, I hope we see Stu back, too. He's an important contributor here and a big part of our community.
It's easy to get worked up about stuff about like this but really, it's much less serious than a detention in high school. And even better, really, because beer.

I am quite certain I have authored objectionable text and would like to avoid any such temptations in the future.
Do we get to know exactly what phrase, word choice, or idea Stu authored which transgressed the rule(s)? If you are not willing to say - exactly - can you give us a hint?

I guess the time period of the temporary ban or vacation has expired and I join you in hoping that we see Stu back.
Learned A Lot From Stu Over The Years
Just want to say whenever I see his name on a post in the Hunterowners.com website I read it. Doesn't matter what it's about, I read and usually learn something. Him and a few others are the real deal. Thanks for helping me out over the years Stu. Hope to read your posts in the future.

There's really nothing tricky about it: Don't insert charged political commentary into boating threads. Don't insult other users. Be helpful and patient with new owners -- we were all them, once. And finally, don't post long lists of links to black market prescription drugs.
And if you have a history of contributions like Stu has, or T-Bird Scott, trust that nothing will happen suddenly. You'll hear from the mods several times first.
The biggest traps are politics and insults. Sometimes, very intelligent, articulate, and astute forum users can't resist drawing political conclusions from posts here. I get it: they're passionate, and that's good. But this is the wrong place and it eventually leads to trouble.
Likewise, when a new boater says he wants to tow his 26 footer from CA to NY with the rudder down, sure, you can tell him he's a frickin' idiot, or you can say, "Well, you could do that but there's a good chance you'll damage your rudder." The former tactic causes bans, the latter creates leaders.
It's just common sense. Play by those few rules and you'll never have any trouble at all.

Common Sense? Not going there!
It is like speeding tickets. I use to write them all of the time. People got highly indignant when I would write them even though I gave a 15 mph tolerance.
There are very few excuses for going 40 in a 25 zone. That being said, I did give warnings at times because it was one of the few excuses.

I have a confession to make ...
I believe I dragged poor Stu into the pit with me. We were engaged in some friendly fire on one of the threads when I happened to go sideways and I wrote something in a mocking sort of way that the moderators found offensive (justifiably). Quite simply, it is very bad manners to say anything that our hosts would find insulting. But I did appreciate the humor with which my sentence was dispensed. I don't know who banned me, but Phil came to my rescue and he was more than understanding! I do believe that I owe the site more commercial business than I have been responsible for lately, so I am going to try to make it up in that manner!
Anyway, I think Stu must have gotten caught up in some kind of fairness doctrine, so I will also be looking forward to his return!

I think the mods have a thankless job and with a forum of this size it's a daunting task.
The rules are the rules and it's best when they're applied evenly to all members regardless of longevity, status or position. Fair is fair. That said, I also look forward to Stu's return.
