anyone know how the wiring is run through the mast of a H27. I need to mount asmall pad eye (on front), a cleat (on starboard side of mast)and bail for the vang and have been hesitant because I do not know exactly how the wiring is run through the mast. Is it loose to a certain point or does it run straight up the front of the mast? I can see pop rivets every couple feet and wondered it that was a wiring harness...

The wiring is inside a PVC conduit and the rivets are holding the PVC to the inside of the mast. Just drill holes in the mast for the mounting screws and use a tap to make the threads for the screws. Use screws that are no more that 3/8" longer than the fixture that you are using - that way you know it will not poke anything inside and be sure that the end of the screw is not sharp. Then mount the fixture.

No harness in my '77 h27

At least as far as I can see. The cables just come up through the step in the stub of a pipe, and then go up the mast to the power/deck fitting in front of the spreaders, and the anchor light at the top.

But there is no telling what a prior owner may have done. Having made the mistake of drilling before I was sure myself, I recommend that you get to a facility with a mast crane, pull up the mast, and have a look! It's not that hard to do, and then you can know for sure.

Personally I attach things to the mast with machine screws. I use a collar on the drill bit to control depth. Then tap some threads and install cleat or whisker pole ring or whatever. A blunt end machine screw if short enough will not endanger any wiring.
