Our Hunter 45 is berthed in a marina in Slidell, LA on the east end of Lake Pontchartrain. We live in NW Arkansas, 10 hours away. Last night I sent email to 2 people listed in the owners directory that list Slidell as their homeport so that we might get first hand info about Ivan. We received replies from both. One gentleman who lives in a house near the marina went over immediately and removed the canvas from the dodger and bimini and secured a few other things. Prospective buyers had done their sea trial about 2 weeks ago, so things were still set up for that. Our broker, also a friend, had removed the jib and secured the docklines, but he doesn’t live in the closeby and at the time there was no threat. Anyway, thanks to HOW having a owner directory and great people in it, we feel much better about the boat. Good luck to anyone down on the Gulf coast.

Thank God I moved my boat
My Hunter 340 is kept in a slip at Point Cadet Marina in Biloxi, Mississippi. Most of the owners were moving their boats to the back bay area. I decided to move my boat to Oak Harbor in Slidell, it turned out to be a good decision. I must say however, that my plan was almost screwed up by a bridge tender that decided not to open for marine traffic past 2 p.m. Tuesday without any prior notice. ajp
