Don't think that the pump always pumps....

Andrew: I am not sure that the raw water pumps always pump on these units. I thought that it was dependent on the ice box temp. If you check your reefer at home you may experience the same type of temps. You may want to consider putting a vent in the compartment so the compressor gets better venting. Actually one at the top and one at the bottom (of the locker area) if it is located inside your salon area.

Steve - thanks for your help.

Steve Every time the compressor starts the fridge pump kicks in as well. It's in an area that has a lot of air. I think I will have to call in an expert (!$) to help me. I can't check the one at home cause we left home 2 months ago to come down to the Keys. Currently in Marathon and I love it. Endless summer www.svtallyho.com

Filter

We had the same problem once. It got so hot the error code said it was overheated. It turned out to be that the air filter needed cleaning. Another time this happened to us, it had iced up because we had the air on and the companionway hatch was open.

Water flow rate?

Andrew: If your equipment has the compressor and condenser integrated into one unit then I would first determine that the water flow rate is adequate because if the water filter is clogged or the water pump not operating normally it would explain the heating by itself. On the other hand if your unit has a separate condenser and compressor then the air circulation issues addressed by the other replies seem right.

Try a fan on the unit

Andrew: Think about opening the compartment and place an AC fan on the unit. This should give you some indication of it is an internal or external problem. I would agree that if you have a filter, you definetly want to be sure that it is clear. This is one thing that I really like about our Isotherm SP unit. It is water cooled and no fan. The coolant runs through a coil in the galley sink thru hull. No need for a fan or a strainer.

My H376 has the AB Cold Machine that has the sea water cooling option. That pump went out 2 yrs ago and I havent replaced it yet. I priced it in San Diego and was shocked at the cost. I guess its a "special" low amp pump they use. I am told that being in SD I really dont need the extra sea water cooling. I havent had any problems w/o the pump. I make sue the locker is wel vented and the condenser fan is working well. I might consider a less expensive pump to use dockside while Im plugged in to ease the burden on the AB unit during the summer. Bob.
