What I go by

23 foot boat needs 230# mushroom. If the bottom is deep soft mud maybe a little lighter. If the bottom is not muddy I don't wouldn't use a mushroom. As a local harbor master.

How heavy a mooring mushroom

Mosty anchorages have harbor masters & local mooring contractors. It will depend on bottom conditions and if you use 1 or 2 annchors. I have 175lbs at the bow and another 175 at the stern

Standard for mooring mushrooms

Here on Long Island Sound the standard is 10 pounds of mushroom for each foot of boat, thus the closest would be 250 lbs. But why not get a 300 lb for extra security? Praobably only cost you an extra $50 to $75, but the insurance is well worth it.

Always buy biiger

You know...for when you buy a bigger boat ;-) I did and saved a lot of money and hassle of selling the old mushroom. Tim R.

Chapman's has a table...

...in their anchoring/mooring section. Its accepted all over as the minimums required for all types of boats. Gives you standards for not only the mushroom size, but also for the primary and secondary chains. Look it up, it'll tell you what you need. AD
