How hard is it to Trailer an Oday 25 CB

I am purchasing an Oday 25 centerboard/keel model and there is an option to buy a load rite tandem axle trailer with it for $1500. How hard is it to tow Oday 25's? What size Vehicle do people use? Weight of Boat? Do you launch it from a trailer or just transport it on the trailer? Any insight people have would be very helpfull. Thank YouRick

Hey rick:I purchased the trailer with mine last year and all i used to tow it was a 1500 series gmc with 4 wheel drive. it rained when we were taking it out making the ramp very slippery. 2wd and we might still be there.The tongue on my trailer comes out about 15 feet so you don't even have to get your tires wet and the boat floats right off the trailer. For $1500 it might be worth it as here in Canada it cost $400 each time you have the boat hoisted in or out. So do your math.

I agree with Jason, launching is going to be the major issue. I use a 3/4 4x4 pickup to tow our 25. On slippery ramps the 4x makes a major difference, sometimes a life saver. On the road, for simple moving, you can probably get by with less, but I have found that you want a tow vehicle with at least the same weight/mass as what you are towing (it's a battle over who is really in control), therefore, a medium duty truck, minimally, is highly recommended. Trailering

I bought my O'Day 25 cb in Alaska, and towed it to TX with a med size 4x4 pickup truck (the previous owner's). My vehicle is a Dodge Ram van, 2wd, and I have trouble getting my boat out of the lake. I'm thinking of having a tounge extension put on it to see if that cures the problem.Once on dry land, it pulls fine with my van. You should note though, even though they ARE towable, it's not a casual thing. Unstepping the mast, and the prep work is time consuming and a lot of trouble. Plus, the older models (like mine) are heavy - mine weighs almost 5000 lbs.But, I'm VERY glad I have a trailer with mine, and I'd recommend buying one with the boat, if at all possible. If it doesn't have brakes on the trailer, I'd recommend having those added.

I trailer mine with a Dodge Dakota 4X4, V-6. I take it to the lake (1.5 hours) and home every year for the past 4 years. I leave it at the lake in a sorage yard, fully rigged as there is no wires stopping me from launching. I pay $700 a year and use it 20-30 times. I'm pulling away from the dock 10-15 minutes after arriving. 4X4 is important and I love the system of leaving it rigged on site as it takes about an hour to get the mast up.Ric"comes a time"New Hampshire
