I have an 81' H30 and the wind vane blew off in the last Hurricane. I have purchased a new one, but my yard says it will be at least 6 weeks before they can get to it. I also need to look at my steaming light, and I need to replace my spreader lights (I have the new spreader lights). My question is, how hard is it to climb the mast and install the wind vane? I weigh about 240, is that too much to climb the mast?

Dont' worry Fred,

by the time you make 4 or 5 round trips to the speaders you will be down to a good fighting weight of 215. Seriously, check the archives for "going aloft" as posters were honest about their weight you can see all the systems people employed. Since you always need two halyards for safty redundancy, think about you climbing one and have the other halyard winch-assisting by your deck mate, the latter you will need to send up all the tools. Take up a messenger line so you can haul up your tool bucket/bag. Remind your deck mate to move slowly once you are up because you will experience a lot of motion once you are off the deck. Scott
