that was insane! I have enough trying to keep a good 5.1kts. that had to be a really wild ride though.

Oh don't tell them that. Tell them you scream across the water. Sideways!

I've done 33.75Knts on my windsurfer, 5.5 m2 sail and 84 ltr board wind 25-30,
Canadian Hole OBX, and that was scary fast, but 60 is ridiculous!

WOW!

I remember back in my Hobie Cat days hitting 20 knots. The rudders start humming, and the rest of the boat starts making all kinds of strange noises. You start to think the whole boat is going to self-destruct at any moment.
BTW, there's another vid on You Tube of this boat going through speed trials and crashing. The whole thing gets airborne!

Catalina Island to Angel's Gate LA Harbor: 1hr, 15 min. That was on my old NACRA. Maybe too bad I sold it, but probably not. My Catalina is a lot slower...

But a better boat for me now.

My macgregor 22 runs a good 60 mph on the trailer
Had my 32 ketch up to 80 mph behind my toter home, but I don't think that is what the OP had in mind. Lol

The hull speed of my sailboat is 7.34. At about 6 my better half gets frightened so that number, so far, has been theoretical. Maybe next year. (White boat is not mine)

Watch a Hunter 23 skidding down the road on it's keel in excess of 60 mph after a tractor trailer came left of center striking the boat and knocking it off the trailer pretty hard. No one was hurt thank goodness. However, I me think you meant on the water.

I got my O'Day 23 up to a bit over 6.3 on GPS this fall... last sail of the year too and the best steady wind I'd seen!

So fast that I'm back before I even know I've left!!!!

Seriously about 6.5 knots is hull speed. 8 knots fastest I've ever been with wind and tidal current in my favor.

I once saw 11 knots during a thunderstorm in the gulf. Surfing down a wave, and only a very short time. At 4AM and pitch black except for the lightning that scaryl Thanks but no thanks on any faster in a sailboat.

I like a boat that can tack, has room for some friends, and which can handle some waves. These guys, who currently hold the record of 50.17 knots average over a mile, are heading out across the Pacific next: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB8LKjZjAyk Expect they'll get to Honolulu before Sailrocket?

Macgregor 26X. motoring with 50hp I could go about 16 mph, motoring with the wind and waves less than 3` I could hit 19.5 mph.. Riding the bow waves of freighters I could hit 20mph..

Sailing into the wind, maybe 6 mph max, but not a very good pointing boat.
Off the wind (45 degrees)with no water ballast, crusiing spinnaker, 20mph winds and 3 foot waves, my gps was showing speeds of 11.2 mph. Erie to Port dover Canada I averaged8.8mph. (55 miles in less than 6 hours) I owned that boat for 9 years and could never reach match that speed again. (didnt want to risk capsize without ballast,)

Boats are always faster down hill. I think it's something to do with gravity.

If we get our boat up to 5kt, then I throw the GPS to my wife on the bow at just the right time, we are crazy fast. For a second.
