How far do you drive to your boat?

5 Minutes, 10 if I miss the light

When we bought our boat, we sailed from Baltimore to the Patuxent river in order to make sure the boat was close to us. I figured it would be highly unlikely that I'd drive all the way up there every time I wanted to sail. With our boat so close to us, we've been out almost once a week this summer, since I'm not limited to taking it out on weekends. If we ever move, I'll be finding a new marina. I'd like to keep it within 20 minutes of home.

A crazy 10 miles

A crazy 10 miles up US 19 than the prime time hours begin. Our boat( FRIEND SHIP ) is docked in a canal behind my friend's house. We are retired so anytime is a good time to go to the boat.

close by/not close by

Our main house is in Ashland, VA and therefore 1 3/4 hours from the boat, and our boat house(a house by the boat)is 30 seconds from the boat that is kept in the water. We are very new sailors (stretching the description) and have sailed alone on our own boat about 6 times with about 6 different "interesting" stories. Needless to say, we are learning the HARD way. We have an '84 Oday 19.

one hour

It's a nice drive from West Hartford to Westbrook. Think I've done it maybe 60 times this year as the log book shows 45 sails so far.

A 5 Minute Walk...

It used to be a 45 minute drive - still great - but now it is an unbeatable 5 minute walk. It only gets difficult when we have lots of food or other items to take down. Tough life!

90 minutes

90 minutes for 70 miles via back roads. 90 minutes for 90 miles via interstate. Either way, I love going there! Isn't it odd that we travel at 60mph just to get to a place where we can travel at 6 knots. I love it. Jack s/v Friendship C-350, #80

3 hrs, 2 states, 170 miles and 11,000 ft.

We travel from Carson City, NV (4700ft) over a 7300 ft pass into Lake Tahoe Basin, Over another 7300 ft pass down into the Sacramento Valley and down to sea level. This is about 170 miles and takes about 3 hrs. (slightly less if the admiral sleeps). We do this nearly every weekend from May thru Oct. During the winter we do it about 1-2 times per month.

Sorry Steve

Well, I hate to steal Steve’s thunder, but for the last year I have been working in Moscow. To get to my boat I catch a flight to Zurich change to American for the flight to DFW, have a friend pick me up at the airport and drive 2 hours to Lake Texoma where my wife already has the boat open and aired out. I’ve done this and it’s worth it. Dennis Thomas S/V Anodyne Catalina 36

Just a Tad Over a Mile - But All Downhill ;D

Also about 300 feet drop in elevation - easy bike ride and shower after returning. Unfortunately, in spite of this, I've only sailed twice since Oct '02 and one of those times was for only about three hours *cry but hope to get a couple times before winter sets in. Usually take the sails off around Oct 15 to Oct 20 so that doesn't leave much time left. The Admiral says she doesn't want to go out if it's raining, cold, snowing, or otherwise unplesant. And this is on a boat with a good dodger and forced air heat. Looks like it's going to be a l-o-n-g winter.

Second Place to Dennis

Well, the drive is only a mile-and-a-half, but that's from the airport! First we drive 40 miles from Park City to the Salt Lake City air port, then fly two hours to San Diego. Not quite a Moscow/DFW trip, though! Michael O'

5 hours, 4 states

I work in New Jersey, but keep my Beneteau 331 in Salem, Mass (300 miles). That's were most of my friends live, and the coast is so much prettier. May through October I drive up mostly on Thursday night; back on Sunday night. My friend Bubba has suggested I keep the boat near his house in South Carolina during the winter so I can sail all year. Sounds more like a retirement plan: I already commute enough

An unabashed plug

We just announced, in an email yesterday, an online repositiory for some of your key boat specs and measurements. This comes in handy for exactly the folks who are answering this question (5 _states_?!?). Every spring we get calls from folks who want to order products, especially canvas, but can't get to their boat to figure out winch sizes, companionway size, hatches, etc. There's a gift certificate bribe for doing it, too. :) Check the store home page for details at http://shop.hunterowners.com

2 min drive, 10 min walk, 5 blocks away

And even then, I get guilty feelings for leaving her alone too long.
