How do you store your Mainsail between normal use?

I have been rolling my main around the boom for the last 4 years with no problems. It saves several steps at the ramp. I just roll it around the boom after it comes off and stuff it in the long sail bag. On my larger boats I just flaked it on the boom and then put on the cover, so it seems natural to me. I also just undo the furled jib and lay it in the boat. Some have taken it and folded it to prevent the luff curl. I'm just not that finiky. How do you store your main during the sailing season? flaked, ready to hoist for next outing

I just flake it onto the boom, leaving the slugs in the track. I remove the removable batten and stow it. Then I put the mainsail cover on over the flaked sail. This saves me a few minutes at both ends of a sail, from having to feed the slugs into the channel. The main is always ready to be raised. Right now I also use the halyard os the topping lift, though I will be getting a boomkicker for Christmas!!

Mainsail flaking with mast down

Tereza, That certainly makes sense when you don't have to trailer the boat home. And of course since you now have the boat out, it's different. Congradulations on your Christmas gift to be! I have other priorities first for $$$. I just leave topping lift on when I sail - no harm , and when I drop the main out on the river.... Steve

Nice Christmas Gift !

You will really like the boom kicker, The one I have came with two sets of rods, I'm using the heavier of the two sets, Brian who sails a 170 as I do is using the lighter of the two sets and likes the way it feels. We both up graded to an 8:1 cascading vang, makes a big difference.:) I don't know what boom kicker is recommended for your 146 ?
