I decided to launch my new to me 222 without painting the bottom as I don't know this boat yet. I had it lifted at the marina off the trailer. While hung in the air I checked out the centerboard only to find about something took a bite out of aft edge about in the middle exposing the plywood core. So looking at the forward part of the opening I see three screws on each side that appears to secure a bracket holding the board and pin. So do I unscrew these and the board and pin drops down?? The centerboard is long and narrow and not weighted. Has any one removed this? Thakns in advance for your reply.

Wedges under the plates
Chuck, My understanding is that there are wedges under the metal plates that hold the centerboard pin in place. I am not sure what holds the egdes in place, but what ever it is it is pretty strong. I jacked up my 222 off the trailer and discovered one of the plates was missing 2 of 3 screws and the remaining one was quite loose. The pin is still quite secure. I think the wedges are held in with sealant / adhesive. I my marina is lifting the boat for me this week. I will be changing both plates and the centerboard pendant. You may want to repair the CB with the pin still attached, on the stands. Dig out any wet wood, use some fiberglass filler and glass over the filler. I'll let you know if I find out more info on the CB pin later this week when I change my plates. Lee

Lee, Thanks, Have you ever seen a diagram anywhere? What I plan to do is when I lay up for the winter I'll have the marina lift it and then drop the centerboard out of the boat. I'm hoping those three screws six altogether release the whole mechanism and the pin wedges and all come off the boat so that I can do the board over this winter. Let me know what you can find out about the mechanism. I see we can get all the parts from D &R Marine.

I would never use
M5200 on any thing that will need fixing in the future. Life Caulk would do nicely to hold the wedges in place. The M5200 is an adhesive and may never allow you take your CB out for future repair work. Have a good day!! Tom

I Agree with TeePee 5200 is a tough number to remove.. I have an idea that the wedges may be in close quarters and would be hard to remove caulking should I need to remove the centerboard again. I think 4200 or the Life Caulk. Larry, Thanks for the pix's of the parts. I will print and keep for when I do the repair. I haven't quite got the jest of how these parts work together yet, but expect to see when I take it all a part.

Which way do the wedges face?
I recently purchased a part interest in an O'Day 23 to "flip", and the centerboard was lying on the berth inside the cabin. I purchased a complete new kit from Rudy to re-install the board, but haven't been under the boat (it's on stands blocked only about 12" off the ground) to see how to fit the fiberglass wedges. I see from the photos how the parts fit, but don't know if the slope on the wedge faces toward the bow or the stern, and if the pin through the hole in the board is ahead of or behind the wedges. Can I get some help?
