How do you remove head faucet on Catalina 320?

there is a flange that screws down underneath the faucett to secure it to sink base but it has two metal pipes going through it for hot and cold water so I cannot turn flange?
usually all the tubes going to the faucet go through the center of the flange so it does not interfere with screwing the flange down? I know there is an obvious solution that I will kick myself for but I do not see it.

Take the faucet apart from the top, just like a household faucet.
