How do you remove an oday 20 boom end casting?

the stainless bolt which connects to the main sheet blocks came out of the boom end casting. i need to remove the end casting to replace the bolt. i drilled out the two pop rivits, but now i can't get the casting to budge.i have tried spraying with wd 40 and driving it with a wooden block. i also tried an autobody slide hammer. so far i don't think the casting has moved.i am afraid i might damage the boom if i keep going. does anyone have a suggestion as to how to remove the casting without damaging the boom?

Try applying a little heat to it. They put it on at the factory. It has to come off. I don't know what else to tell you.Joe

air pressure?

i thinking of using my son's air compressor and try to see if i could put build air pressure through the bolt hole opening to blow it off the end. (hopefully leaving my hand intact!) if that doesn't work, heat was the only thing i could think of too. do you know if they used any adhesive on the casting when installed?

NO! I wouldn't do that.

If you could generate enough air pressure to blow out the casting, it would conceivably be enough to rupture the boom extrusion and you may very well loose a hand. It is galvanic corrosion holding the fitting in place. Soak the end inside and out with a better penetrating oil like Aerokroil or others mentioned in this forum for days refreshing the penetrant every day. Wait at least a day to apply heat to let the solvents dissipate so you don't go boom. You need a big torch diffuser head and will need to use a big flame because the aluminum will really soak up the heat. Heat the surrounding extrusion and not the end fitting. It's OK to let it cool. The heat has done what it can.I would look for a large sliding hammer type dent puller (borrow from an auto parts place or garage) and figure out a way to hook the end to the fitting so you could pull/pound it out. Perhaps a lag expansion anchor in the end fitting hole tightened in with a lag bolt. Now you have a bolt to fasten the dent puller to. Or fashion a heavy duty hook.Good luck.
