i came across a site on the internet which shows an A frame system such as joe wrote about. i found the site by searching under "mast crutch" on yahoo. the address is http://home.att.net/~sail-trailers/sailboat-trailer.html for some reason i could not copy the address into the link section. hope you can find it. this system looks like it is available for sale. it may be cheaper in the end than buying all the hardware necessary to construct one.

Deck vs. Keel mount
The 23 Pop-top that has the mast going through the deck of course is much harder then the 23 "convertible" which has a deck mounted mast. That link is great, although they all show a deck mast step. The third one would be the only that could maybe work for a thru deck mast. I own the convertible, but have raised mast on both. Depending on your location (marina, how often the mast come down and how much you plan on trailering), just good ole' man power is a good way to go. For the pop-top, 4 men is the way to go (although we have done 3, not fun). Two guys holding the base and feeding into hole, one man aft with a "crutch' about 12 feet long (normally we just find a small tree/sappling with a "Y"), and one fore pulling on the mainstay. I would really like to hear if that "option" 3 really does/would work with a thru-hull mount. My biggest advise of the "pop-top" model is to watch for leaks where the mast goes thru the deck, I have yet to see one that doesn't leak.
