Boden coffee press

I love my little boden coffee press while on board. Much easier than a dc brewer, and better taste than instant.

Sunrise in Washington?

Yes, I have seen the sun rise in Washington (Seattle Area). Once. That is why it's a cherished mental picture ;) Hope you got a chance to sail here when you visited!

Another insulated coffee press

has been available through Campmor.com. While it only makes four cups I think I'll try the Melita over a thermos when we have additional coffee drinkers on board. Thanks!

Modified 12 Volt Method

I've tried various methods but have found the best results were obtained using the drip coffee maker. The problem with doing this on board is the high power consumption of the 12v DC coffee machines plus the length of time to brew the coffee. My solution has been to pre-boil the water on the propane stove prior to putting the water into the coffee maker. This cuts the 30 minute process down to about 5 to 7 minutes with minimal battery consumption.

Coffee/boat design

With all this coffee, it is no wonder why power consumption and condensation is a problem on many boats. This list should be copied and forwarded to the boat manufacturers for further analysis in thier boat design. For years I have done the boil water and insert the teaspoon of instant and a dash of condensed milk. I see now that there are some easy methods with minimal appliances to enjoy a good cup of coffee aboard. Don, again, thanks for asking the question. I have been edumicated in the art of good coffee aboard by this ever faithful gathering of boat owners. r.w.landau

Savages....

I prefer to park my boat on its trailer in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot. I leave a message for the openning crew to wake me up when the first pot is finished brewing. Not only do you get good, no-hassle coffee, but you get it delivered right to your V berth. :)

My coffee is regarded by many as world famous

Dave, someone has already suggested the use of a Boden Press (known in other parts of the world as a "French Press." What you need in addition to this is a full flavor coffee - I use Maxwell House Master Blend. Use 1 heaped tablespoon per cup. Here is the secret weapon - a dash of salt!! Let the coffee steep/draw for 2-3 minutes. Press down and enjoy. Mmmmmmmm

Coffee Toddy

I have finally found the answer to good coffee on board. It is the Coffee Toddy. Cold Brew. You start with cold water and drip coffee and let it sit for 10 hours then drain through the special filter, mix a shot glass with a cup of hot bowling water, and voila as good as home brewed. Lasts in refridgerator for 18 days. Found it at the local coffee shop. Enjoy!

Middle Man

At home I'll drink 2 or 3 cups of coffee, but while we're on the boat, I don't like to foul up the head after morning coffee, here's what I do. I scoop out 3 tablespoons of coffee and throw them into the River and then make a gin and tonic.
