How do you like the blue hull?

Hello everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend! I wonder if you guys with blue 26M could give me some insight into the durability of the blue color. I talked to a dealer in my area recently (hi Bill!), and he said he would NOT recommend the blue hull. Reason: blue color is only a very thin layer of gelcoat, that gets easily scratched etc. Then you get white streaks in the blue area, and would look not nice in relatively short time. Plus, if gelcoat is a number of years old, the color would change slightly, so repair would become very difficult. So my question for you with blue hull 26M: What is your experience with the blue hull? (especially if boat is on trailer when not sailed) Thanks for you support! Have a great week, Kai

like the blue

Already scratched it on the rocks once or twice. It's still blue. My dealer has a matching blue repair kit from the factory. Beneteau has used their signature blue for years, and eventually it turns to a wonderful pale dull blue. i still like it better than white. Eventually you might after several years have to epoxy/urethane coat it ,but that will just make it sealed better since epoxies/urethanes have low surface crazing.

I have a blue

Hull, on my 25 Mac Venture, and I didn't like it at first, but it is growing on me. I wanted a navy blue hull, or white, but we don't have much choice when buying a used boat. I have some minor scratches on mine, and a couple of areas that have been repaired, but over all it looks good. The way I look at it, is if I have scratched, and I am sailing, you can't see it from the cockpit, so they are not there. While on the trailer.... Well that is something else. Another way to look at this.... is scratches are a sign that the boat is being used:)

Matching add-ons

I have a blue hull and I think it looks real nice out on the water, makes it easier for others to identify me among all the white hulls. I have run across a minor set back though, trying to co-ordinate colored add-ons. The blue sail cover to match was easy, looks good, still trying to figure out how to get the same color on a bimini, might have to get it custom made. Same goes for a dodger or full enclosure, trying to get everthing to match is a challenge. I could sell the blue sail cover and go all white to match, that would match the white parts of the boat, ie deck. But if I had the white hull with black trim I could get all accessories in black as well as white and I have seen the white M decked out in black accessories, looks cool, made me wish I had a white hull.

Another consideration

I had the good fortune to see my first blue 26M in Virginia on a very hot, sunny summer day. She was sitting right next to a white 26X, both boats exposed to the sun from top and side. I found that the interior of the White X was a lot cooler than the Blue M. Since I hate sweating and didn't plan on Air Conditioning any time soon, I bought a white 26M. So, depending on where you sail - the blue hull's higher absorption of solar energy could be good or bad. - AndyS
