how do you keep the keel from banging

Does anyone know how much play is acceptable on a v222? I don't know what the dimensions were with the fiberglass on in order to make sure it fits right without glassing it.

Search this forum for "keel dimensions" or "keel drawing." I know that someone has posted a Macgregor drawing for the original build of the V222 keel, measurements and all.

There shouldn't be too much clearance. My V222's keel, before it began delaminating, had a close fit. I never heard it knock around against the trunk. Every boat is different, though. My M25 keel is cast iron, with a good pivot hole, and it clunks while under way unless I lock it down. MacGregor did build some looseness into the design, but I think some individual boats are worse than others.

Perfect, thanks. I attached a drawing of the current measurements without any filler or glass on it. Looks like there is quite a bit of material missing just by the measurements.

banging swinging keel

I ha exactly the same problem and after trying many bdifferent solutions I had a good nfriend who helped me ,

There is only one way beleive me : get the keel out ( jack the boat...) and you will discover the pivot hole is much bigger than the pivot bolt itself,

for a 20 doll we had a bushing made to fill the hole and receive the same old bolt that was still in good condition

Warning the bushing should be in bronze aluminium, or any other material softer than cast iron , It will last for years ....
