I want to try the Gentry telltale system. http://www.arvelgentry.com/tuft.htm What is the best stuff for attaching telltale tuffs directly to Dacron sail cloth which can later be removed without leaving a damaged spot ?

Adhesive backed Sail Repair tape is best. Or you can buy prepared tell tales from Davis Instruments that come with 'punched-out' adhesive backed light weight dacron.

Any 'traces' of adhesive are easily removed with Goo-Gone™, etc.

A while back you advised me to make the Gentry's ~3" long. Hope I got that right. Playing around last night in light winds, I got the impression that the Davis strips are much too long and need to be cut. The telltales installed on my sails by their makers also appear to be too long to do much but droop in light winds (???:cussing:???). Should all the tales be ~3"?

Tks, OC

3" long for the gentry tufts is sufficient.
Standard Tales, used elsewhere, are typically 6" long.

In super light winds, I prefer tales made of mylar film from an old 'mini-cassette'.
