How do I waterproff an Oday w/o an engine?

Oday 28 Warwick, R.I.
Well, after 1 1/2 years and many frustrations, we have sold our Oday 28 because our mechanic could not find all the parts needed to repair our saildrive power head. Naturally, we're taking a loss.

Currently the tranny is still in the boat, but without the powerhead. The buyer wishes to sail it away and intall an outboard. Besides closing the water inlet valve that goes to the engine, is there anything else on the tranny that should be secured? Also, do I need to somehow close off the exhaust hose that was connected to the engine, and is now open? I'm concerned that when heeling to the exhaust side of the stern, water may enter the boat.

Thanks,
Guenther

What kind of power drive was it?

The OMC Zephyr Saildrive was basically just the powerhead from a Johnson/Evinrude 35HP outboard. It is unfortunate that parts are hard to get.
Anyway, I'd recommend removing the whole saildrive leg and glassing over the hole, definitely remove the old water intake and exhaust thru-hulls and glass over those holes too. If the new owner was planning to install a new inboard (either a different saildrive or a straight inboard with shaft/strut), it might be worth leaving the thru-hulls in place and just carefully capping them. But if he is switching to an outboard, they will be a big liability.
