Hi Carl, here is what I did when it came time to..

sell our H28, which we sold ourselves in about two weeks in late spring. 1. Removed all the personal stuff that was not a part of the sale. 2. Cleaned and polished the boat inside and out (slip appeal). 3. Prepared a one page flyer listing all of the boat's systems and equipment. 4. Agreed on a ceiling and floor price with the admiral. 5. Installed a for-sale-by-owner sign and tube containing several copies of the flyer on the boat. 6. Posted a copy of the flyer on the marina bulletin board. 7. When the prospect comes aboard make ready. Flowers, heat, scented candles, lights, warm chocolate chip cookies, etc. On about the third day the person who ended up buying the boat expressed his interest. He drove a hard bargain, but I appealed to his goodness. We both got what we wanted. Good luck. Terry P.S. Why does the marina want ten percent? They have no skin in the game, do they?

I have to say Terry is right!

The first boat I tried to sell took awhile. I was a great boat! The fact is that I had all the stuff onboard that I wanted on the boat and it looked tooooo lived in! That was a Paceship 23. I had a For Sale sign in the ports for two summers. (I wasn't in a hurry to sell it because Momma didn't like it. I wish I would have known that she would like a larger boat! I would have made things happen faster!) r.w.landau

r.w.landau you have to know the boat

Brain, has a power sailer that could take a 70 HP motor but it only when 13 MPH. It is a really nice boat. I am guessing he only put the 9.9 becuase it doesn't make sense to put a 70 HP motor on that boat!

The boat came with a 9.9 and I am happy with that size motor. No need to be in a hurry else I'd have purchased a power boat.

put ad in here and craigs list

well i added an add to this site. must say though it appears to be lacking ads with boats over 25 ft though. also put one in craigs list. thanks for all the advice. a bit too cold here in minnesota to put up a sign yet and i am going to hold off on going to yachtworld for 10% commission cost for a while. just to clear up something else-my marina broker charges 10% for selling a boat. also no for sale signs are allowed. thanks carl

Anyone ever sold ???

Anyone ever sold a 100k +/- boat through this site. It looks like a bunch of 5k to 40k boats but not many late model boats. I like to place an add for my boat but it does not look like this site really sells higher dollar boats. If anyone can chime in on this and let me know I'd appreciate it...!

Is your boat the Cape Dory that is listed on this site?

Classified stats

The question about $100k+ boats got me thinking so i ran some numbers: 15-20% of the boats for sale are priced aboce $100k (depending on the site, excluding TrailerSaillor.com) 15-20% of the boats in our directory are 35' or longer As an offhand guess, I'd say our proportion of boats over $100k is about equal to the population of boats valued greater than $100k. Roughly.
