I just bought this boat ,its a 1982 Hunter 27, im new to sailing ( but not to drinking) in the bildge area i have a pump , its runs but the hose is loose in that area, i see a hole in the starebord side that from what i can tell is where it should be going , but no hose fiting , i can stick my finger in there and i cant feal any thing other than an opening between the hull and the storage area, there is allso a hole in that storage area, kinda like a 4 way ,from their im lost . any info on how to fix this would be of great pride to me in front of my girlfrind and my new boat,, "Miss April" thanks so much, Markus

bilge

Markus Everything has to go somewhere. Make sure the hose in the bilge is hooked to the pump. When you cut the pump on you should hear it running and you should hear water running somewhere. If not the pump is not getting power or it is bad. If the hose is loose between the bulkheads, (very unlikely) but anything is possible, it can be accessed. You just have to keep opening hatches in that area. When buying a used boat you should open everything you can open anyway. No telling what you will find in there. Everything on the boat that can be loose is accessible. It helps to be a contorsitionist but it is accessible. Note, some pumps have a float switch and will not cut on unless there is a certain level of water in the bilge. Usually more than an inch. Good luck

bilge

I removed the foot float (bad) and the pump runs when i power it on. it has a white hose about 3 feet long, but its not connected to anything but the pump. im heading back to the boat, and take a few pics if i cant run it down. Im Thinking it must run thru that hole on the starboard side under the storage area under the seat, just didnt look far enough last night, ill let you know. Thanks! Boat History , As I Know it,,,,( Only Read if you want to ) I bought this boat as a project boat, the person i bought it from had purched it from Florida, but decided it was to much for him at his age. it looks to me that the boat was damaged from a storm , dont know. 3 portlights have no glass but have plywood in them , the frames look ok, the sliding hatch that you slide open to get in side the boat is hand made and not very good at that, but appears to have been made at the same time as the rest of the quick fixes. i dont think it sunk, but did take on a lot of water, their was a 1/2" hole drilled in the bottem of the hull just forward of the keel, the only damage to the keel is at the back edge, thats kinda strange but not that bad. The Motor is a 1 cylinder Yanmar , I was told it has been "Pickeled" I pulled the dipstick and the oil looks freash and no sign of water, I need to do a lot of reading on that but thats a little down the road. I have removed allmost all the teak and now have it refinished, after i sanded I put on 2 coats of Golden teak oil then wet sanded with teak oil and 2 more coats, thay look great. On some of them I want a high gloss so ill be puting on some Cetol high Gloss. The plywood venear in the galley is painted and in bad shape so ill be rebuilding all of it. Today i want to finnish doing the breaker box ,I have replaced 2 breakers and might have to do 3 more, and replace all 5 interior lights, with any luck ill have light inside tonight, And finish the Bilge . Well didnt mean to write a book, and its time to get started. Take care and be safe Markus

Thanks Manny I have started a web site ( not up yet, give it a week) NOT SELLING ANYTHING! just somthing for me to document the progress , Trials and misshaps during my work on my first sailboat, and stay on topic of the Hunter 27 75-84 . the site is www.sailingmissapril.com and at this stage i should be calling it Hopefully sailing miss april,,,but im Optimistic ! I would love to have as many other boats finished and well not done yet to help me and others in ideas for upgrades and compleating our boats. I hope to have it up after this weekend, just have to work some things out so their is NO popups, or banner ads, I hate those! Take care Markus

Bilge exit

Markus, I have a 1981 h27. The bilge hose runs from the pump through a hole on the starboard side of the bilge and into the storage area under the starboard bench seat. From there up and through the hull above the waterline. From your original post it sounds as though your bilge hose has come loose. From a later one I guess you've found it?..not sure. Also, note that your icebox likely drains into your bilge as well so you should see another hose from between the hulls in that direction. Have fun rebuilding... Scott

Nice keel!

Markus, I have the shoal keel on mine, which is good cause my marina entrance/exit is only about 4 feet at low tide :( . Manny

Vents and Outlets

Manny - I think you had a mod done by a previous owner. My bilge exit is where you say your holding tank vent is. My vent is all the way forward at the point of the bow. One on each side for the water tank and the holding tank. Pat.

Patrick -

Not to get too off topic but you have the holding tank in the v berth with the water tank? Markus, how about yours? Mine originally had the Mansfield head, the holding tank was directly below the bowl, hence the vent's location. I have a very large water tank under my v berth, holds 36 or 40 gallons (can't quite remember). The vent exit is on my port side near the sink in the head. Manny
