Foolish question I know, but any tips for replacing a broken main halyard (without going up the mast). We have a bridge over quiet (not troubled) water near us and we are going to try that today. If not, it's bosun's chair time with jib halyard. Any suggestions for a homemade bosun's chair? '85 Catalina 27, BTW.

low tide layover

Do you have the option of laying her over on a sandy beach at low tide, allowing you to reach the top of the mast with a stepladder? Alternately, is lowering the mast easier than going up the mast?

Forget a home made sling or chair if you don't

know what you are doing. Don't you have a spare halyard? You must have. Contact neighbor boaters for help. Someone will have the right gear. Key word; 'right'.
