the previous owner to my boat (new this year to me, 84 hunter 34) is deceased. the outside teak has faded to the raw wood so i guess i can sand and use cetols. i would like to add a coat of shine to the interior, including the teak and holly soul, how do i tell what i have now? regards, mike

Interior

Mike: The interior was probably Daly's finish. You can contact Hunter for the exact product. It is basically an oil that hardens to a gloss. For the exterior I would recommend Cetol Light (minimum 3-4 coats). When this is done you may want to consider a companionway cover and rail covers too. It keeps it looking good for many years without recoating.

Cetol on exterior

I don't believe cetol is used on the inside of your boat. You may use a variety of oils, varnish, or poly inside. Probably a lot of information on the archives here.

teak interior

On my Catalina 27, I use regular cetol on the exterior, but only teak oil on the interior. I think it is a warmer and more natural treatment of interior teak and it only has to be done once or maybe twice a year. Anything else is overkill, in my opinion, but I am sure that interior cetol would not be right. Good luck.
