How can I get my sailboat home? Fixed keel 25 foot rests on cradle at marina every winter.
I want to take the time to do some extensive work.
Are there haulers that can ship it on cradle and slide off or do I need to buy a trailer.
Already have two quotes for a custom made trailer average $6,000
I think I can find a flatbed for a third of cost use my cradle add some extra support .
Please some ideas or concerns..throw them at me..
9.3 beam prob need a permit
5,000 lb boat with 4'11" draft
Are there height limits?
Buying a trailer for nearly what I paid for boat is hard to justify.

Lockview Marina and Boat Transport is down your way. Tough to get but they have the roll off trailer. I used them when I had my boat hauled from Sodus to Hamlin.

So they rely on structural integrity of your cradle only?
And they can drag it back on trailer when I'm ready?

You measure the value of the trailer against the yearly recurring yard expenses for storage and add ons rather than the cost of the boat.
When I priced the whole thing out, including taking the mast down, putting it back up, the boat transport, hauling the boat, bottom wash, some de-rigging, trailer storage expenses and maintenance, it came out to about what the yard charged for winter storage. I don't think you do this to save money, although you may. You do it to have control over the work that is done on the boat.

Yes SD the cradle must be in reasonably good shape. They really don't roll it off as in kerplop but move it off the trailer enough to block part of it then they pull forward and continue blocking it as it rolls off. They then reverse the process when they pick it up. It was 850.00 for me for my haul one way 55 miles. I used another place locally for the trip to Point Breeze and they scared the hell out of me and that cost about 500.00 for 14 miles. Here is the info: http://www.lockviewmarina.com/

Alot of boat haulers and marine yards have hydraulic boat trailers that can back in around your existing cradle and pick it up. No sliding on/off a flatbed as such. Usually the cradle needs to be up on 6 inch blocks to begin with. Think of a big U shape with hydraulic lift bars for the front and back of cradle.

Website says open till 8pm on sat. No answer. Will try Monday.
$850 sounds good and maybe less for half distance.
Two years at home with me will payfor the $6,000 trailer
But, imagine not sailing two years :(

Wow 25 how did I never see this post of you restoration.
I have similar work to do , starboard side has soft spot all stanchions and hardware need rebedding, replace and renew seals on windows, remove holding tanks and all sanitary hoses. I'm going with an airhead composting toilet. And air conditioning in place of holding tank.

So did you opt for the trailer? I'm going that route I think .. wife and I already thought would be nice to move it if need be..

Nah, looked at the cost of a custom trailer and thought I could have it hauled 6 or so times. My winter storage is only 600.00 so by the time I had someone haul it with the oversize permits and mast stepping it would add up fairly quick. Good fortune with your restoration.
