How big?

I am in the process of purchasing a new boat for spring delivery. My question: is there a general rule of thumb for how big an ice box/refrigerator should be in relation to the size of the boat? I plan to use this boat (33 foot) for long weekends and one or two week-long trips per year. The builder is talking about a 1.7 cubic foot refrig and I am concerned that this is too small. Thanks in advance.

Whatever a builder says ... is always

too small. That's why you see people getting on boats with large coleman coolers that you stumble over for days. Go to your local department store and look at the sizes of coolers ... and see what you think you [and you crew] can live with based on the use of ice as the cold source ... just 24 cans of beer will take up over a third of a cubic ft. without ice ... if I remember right Vic "Seven" Naples

I put the beer in the bilge

The Ice Chest is for the vodka and the peppermint Schnapps, and the lettuce.

That's not much room even for a day trip

Our G-26 has 8 cubic feet of storage in the cooler locker. We keep a separate cooler inside this large cooler for frozen items. With our 11 and 9 year old grandchildren along for a couple of days on the lake, we like the extra cold storage.

Thanks for the responses.. The manufacturer has added a top loading buit-in (1.5 cubic ft) to bring the the total refrig/freezer space to 3.2 That should be enough for a week on the Chesapeake Bay considering you are not wasting any room on blocks of ice.
