be to mount a swim ladder on the stern. The ladder has a 2"x3" 4 hole mount, the fiberglass is 1/4" maybe, I have cut a piece of 7/16 ply 7"x9" to fiberglass to the inside, before I glass it in does that sound big enough? Tim

Backing Plate

The plywood is well large enough, but scratch sand it and the inside of the hull with 80 grit; 'glue' in place with something like PC-7 and coatt eh entire exposed area with two coats of West System Epoxy to seal out moisture. I'd use 1/4x20 oval or round head stainless steel Philips head bolts with fender washers and aircraft bolts.

Take a scrap piece of your plywood and boil it for

an hour, If it stays together then use it. Be sure to counter sink the bolt holes and use a good caulk on the outside.

I would use a single piece of plywood.

I am not sure how wide your ladder is, but I would use a single piece (if possible) to span both of the mounting brackets. If the space permits be sure to have 2-3 inches to the outside of each bracket. It is not a bad idea to epoxy or varnish the wood to prevent it from absorbing moisture. Be sure to thru bolt the brackets and use ny-locs or double nut the bracket. Of course you will want to use a good sealant under the brackets to prevent any leaks. Don't use any sealant that you cannot remove (ie: 5200).

The thing is

this is a narrow ladder with one bracket, 3/8 bolts, I bolted it up without gluing the backing plate on and saw more flex than I liked, I am thinking I should add some mat below the backing plate where the lower support contacts the hull since that is where the hull is flexing most, I will try to get a pic tomorrow. thanks, Tim

Novelman called this morning and will be staying

at the guest slips this coming 3 day weekend. The guest slips are .50/ft. Get one early they should fill up fast with this weather. As far as the ladder is concern, the load from the ladder is on a shear and not lateral to the transom and is therefore not as critical. Frank
