How big is your Dinghy??

I am starting to look for a used inflatable in my area and need to know what size to look for. I have a 79 Hunter 37C and will be installing davits on the stern rail. I need to know if a 10 ft is too big. I have found they range from 8ft to 11ft. What size you recomend?? Also I plan to use a small 4 stroke outboard with built in gas tank. I plan to use the dinghy for short hops to and from the anchorage.

I have an 8' porta bote on order. I thought of going with the inflatable but I am not all into the storage issues given that this little 27 is already maxed out for our weekend adventures.The previous dinghy was/is a sit on top kayak. I think the dinghy question is always subjective to ones uses and space. You have a big boat you could probably hoist whichever dinghy you like. Let us know what you decide.

Dingys are a personal matter, as are davits. We had davits on our Out Island 41, eventually took them off, carried the dingy on deck. I would not consider davits for my H 37 cutter. 17 foot "j" measurement (Mast to forestay) gives me acres of foredeck for dingy storage. Stern is narrow, dingy would hang out both sides, catch on docks and pilings. We ferry a large old dog to the beach occasionally to play frisbee. Inflatable with good sized tubes, gets dog near deck level without heeling the dingy

I love to carry the dinghy on deck but with the staysail rig in place I don't see that as an option. Therefore I have gone to davits and use a 9 ft. Achilles with inflatable keel. Often wish I had a hard bottom with big tubes but then it would probably be too heavy for the narrow stern of the 37.
