HOW BIG is a BIG boat

I've seem some recent emails about a new 44 being rebadged 426 etc. ....but I'm now confused. The 426 brochure says it is 41' 10" long...whereas the 'old' 410 was longer!!...and much closer to a 44' yacht. An old Cruising World report on the 460/466 refers to it as 44', whereas the brochure says it is 46' 1". I suspect difference is hull length vs overall lenght including bow roller etc! Can someone tell the the actual length of the HULL for the 426 and 466 (and 410) if possible. Size ins't everything...but when you're trying to decide on a yacht without actually seeing it (as in my case...they are not yet in this country) understanding scale/size in important. Can anyone help??

410 length

my docs indicate my 410 is 40.5'. The 43.5' spec Hunter uses includes bow roller and rub rail. I figure it saves me about $250/year in fees. Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410

426 is a 44....almost.

I have a 426DS and we had to specifically measure LOA for slip placement at our marina. Measured with a tape measure from stern rub rail to bow roller, the 426 is 43'10". I guess this is how Hunter comes up with it's new designation as the Hunter 44.

how big is big

I have 3 Hunter marketing brochures in front of me. 410. hull length = 41'1" 426/44. hull length = 42'1" 466. hull length = 44'3"

Another brochures interpretation

I have my 426DS Owner's Manual in front of me: LOA- 43' 2-1/2" Best bet is to simply go out and measure the darned boat.!!! I still stand by my 43'10" as actual on the 426DS. At least mine anyways.!!!

Length of a 2001 410...

...measured from tip of anchor to the rub rail was 41' 11". Don't forget the anchor extends beyond the roller. Done by the rigger during commissioning. John Richard s/v Jack's Place

Different Brochures??!

Thanks your feedback...I think it looks like there are different batches of brochures out there! I've got a recent 426DS brochure (this year - 30th Anniversary edition) and it says Overall Length is 41'10" !! However, I notice that Hunter's web-site talks about Hull length of 42'2" and Overall 43'2.5" which is close to your brochures. Also Frank has measured his at 43' 10" overall which is consistent with your comments and web-site. Sooooo...lucky I asked, it looks like the brochure I was given is wrong and almost put me off buying a 426!!! Someone should tell Hunter.

I've been told by others that Hunter built the ...

P42 from the H43 hull mold and the 420 and the 426 from the H41 hull mold. This helped me decide to buy the P42 rather than the other models. If you compare boat specs the P42 is about 4,000 pounds heavier than the 420. It also has more sail area. Terry

different brochures

The 426DS brochure I have is dated 2/03 (lower right hand corner of the back page) and shows the 43' 2.5" LOA. Very real possibility that an earlier printing had different LOA, LWL, etc. numbers.

ah! ha!

I have a 426DS brochure that was printed September, 2002. In it the LOA of the 426DS is stated at 41'10". Solves that mystery.

They must be feeding the boats Viagra!!

Thanks I'll rely on the later brochure. My problem as you might have gathered is that I can't measure these boats because there are none in the country (Australia). I'd be the first.

Jumping into this post late...

...and without reading the prior posts... Hunter changed the LOA's some time back because they started measuring differently. For many years they measured the hull, but then other manufacturers started measuring the bow stem and other extrusions, so they changed their method to keep up. If the boat is of the right era you can find two different LOA's for the same model.

Not the same mold.....

The 426DS (and 426AC) were the first of the "big boats" to get the new Henderson-designed hull which is quite different than the H410 hull. I have a 426DS and a slip neighbor has a beautiful new H410. Coachtop notwithstanding, they're quite different in bow, stern, and cockpit design. Methinks the Henderson hull will be the "hull of the future" on the bigger Hunter boats going forward. It seems to be a very clean hull. I initially questioned whether the Yanmar 56hp would be adequate to push the DS at hull speed ("loaded" displacement is about 26,000lb) but it does so quite easily. Also, I notice the boat leaves a very minimal and clean wake. Unless you have bow thrusters, which I have. Separate post to come seeking advice on THIS issue.
