With this being the peak of tropical hurricane season, where and how do sailors deal with their vessels when in the Carribean? Maybe put their boats on the hard and do maintenance over the storm season?

There are hundreds of us here in Grenada, anchored in the various bays on the south coast. There are hundreds more of the "commuter cruiser's" boats stored on the hard at various boat yards here.
Trinidad is another place where many cruisers go that is outside the "rule of 12".

I think that if you consider that the hurricane season is when it is hot in the tropics and also hot in Maine you will see why cruisers spend the winter in the south and the summer in the north.

depends on the cruiser--with money they hang in usa in summer--or canada. without money they pretty much hang with their boats.

I've tried it both ways.
Generally though, I find the NE just as hot (even hotter at times) and unpleasant as the Caribbean and I've even had to deal with tropical storms up there too.
But really it is the sail south that I'm just plain tired of. Numerous trips from RI to St. Thomas via Bermuda have all entailed a bit of unpleasant weather in the Gulf Stream (45 to 70 knots of unpleasant weather), except one.
So for me it's a matter of NOT getting my a** kicked every fall.
What's the definition of insanity again?

Don't seem to matter

For me it doesn't seem to matter where I am, or when I'm there. I seem to get my a&% kicked with some regularity. With the possible exception of winter time. Sailing the gulf is pretty nice between Nov. 1, the end of hurricane season, and June1, which seems to be when it get to be hot and regular thunderstorms. Occasionally gets a little nippy, but it never lasts long, and is not very common. Seems like the best of both worlds.
