The hour meter has stopped working. Yanmar 3ym20, is this common and does anybody know a simple fix?

First, check all of the wiring connections, and the wire for continuity. look for things that may have vibrated loose, or breaks in the wires at the connectors. Not uncommon.

Mine came back when the weather improved. I installed a cheap one in the top of the housing inside the lzarette on my 343. Easier to see also. There is slight variation between the two.

I have the same problem. When I researched the hour meter in the RPM gauge I was told that the hour meter works thru a different method of pick up now.
It only worked 2 years . My boat is a 2007. I'm using an aftermarket hour meter powered by the engine compartment fan circuit.

I recently had the same problem on my '06 Ben 343. The tach worked fine; however, the digital hour meter failed. I read somewhere that you could purchase a new VDO tach/digital hour meter from Torrenson or Mack Boring Yanmar for approximately $225. I opted to purchase an analog meter from Ebay for approximately $40 and installed it on the black plastic housing that covers the entire instrument panel asspembly. Works well and is actually easier to read.

I have a 2008 ben49 with a Yanmar with the LCD hour meter. Last year the LCD would get dim and fade away to where the numbers would not be visible. They would eventually come back but intermittently fade out. I know the owner of a cat with twin Yanmars and both LCD hour Meters are doing the same. It must be a Yanmar defect.

Have you managed to resolve it?

Must be one source for LCD displays that all engine manufacturers use. In our harbor virtually all of the displays have gone into fade mode - doesn't matter what engine manufacturer.

I was lucky in that the display came on before haulout. I bought an analog display connected it to a power cord (12v) stuck it in my car and ran it until it duplicated the LCD display for engine hours.

I have not resolved the problem. It started late in the season so I did not do any troubleshooting. Now the weather has finally broke I will check the wiring, but I doubt that's the problem. I'll purchase a standalone hour meter and mount in by the nav station. It'll be more convenient at the nav station anyway.
