The wife and I will be flying into St Thomas in July for one night and then taking a ferry to Totola. I would be interested in hearing about any of the Hotels as far as price, cleanlines, and service.

We got married at Bolongo Bay about 10 years ago. Great hotel right on the water with a restaurant and beach bar right on the sight. The beach bar had two volley ball courts with lights and all the locals would come and play at night. You could just order a rum drink and watch. It was great.

Are you chartering in the BVIs?

We chartered with Sunsails in the BVIs back in November. Don't miss the Baths or White Bay.

Bolongo Bay should fit you bill. It wasn't top of the line but nice.

Out of curiosity why aren't you just staying on the boat the night before?

The Island Beachcomber is quick and easy and 2-3 minutes from the airport. Nice beach and bar, but not fancy if that is what you want. If you want more luxary, the Ritz or Marriot offer nicer stays.
As for sleeping on the boat, we did that in May in the moorings marina and the boat was without AC. It was a sauna, even late in the night. Very little air movement in the basin. The admiral and the enlisted were very grumpy.

Island view guest house. Rates are fair and (at as of Jan 2010) the couple that run it are serious world class steak lovers, he has a giant $16k bbq grill and imports his own beef from Argentina or something like that, and for about $25 a person will make you one of the best steak dinners of your life. I still have dreams about that steak.

We just got back, stayed at the Galleon, nothing fancy, only about 8 rooms, but nice deck over looking the city about 3 blocks from the water. Less than a mile to the fast ferry docks. You can check them out on trip advisor. I would stay there again.

thanks for the info guys. we are not staying on the boat when we get there because we are getting there a day early just to give us time to start the whole relaxation theme of the vacation.

You'll want to stay at the Windward Passage Hotel. It's a short cab ride from the airport and it's right across the street and up about a block from the ferry terminal. They serve breakfast in their restaurant starting at 0600, so it's an easy morning to get up, have breakfast, check out, and walk with your bags to the ferry to Tortola. The rates aren't bad by island standards and the facility is pretty nice. Its where we stay when we do bareboating in the BVI, as it's so much cheaper to fly to St Thomas and take the ferry. Plus Paradise Point in St. Thomas is one of our favorite places in the world, so we like to fly in the day before, check into the Windward Passage, and then catch a cab to Paradise Point for dinner. www.windwardpassage.com

I stayed at (I'm pretty sure) Galleon the last time I was down there when our flight was delayed by about 4 hours and we missed the last ferry to Tortola. While the place was nice, it had about three and a half thousand steps to carry our stuff up in the dark, and then back down a few hours later... Hope to never have to do that again.
