My starter doesnt kick off every time I press the starter button and am traveling to warmer climates in a year and won't have much access to parts. I'm worried that if the button is broken could I hot wire it somehow to get the engine running? Is it as simple as shown in the movies and I just have to touch some of the wires together like its bypassing a simple switch?

what are my options? What should be replaced?

thanks,
jared

You should verify it's the switch acting up. And if so replace it. But it's not hard to hot wire a starter. Just need to provide 12v to the starter solenoid.

Looks like its a little more complicated but known issue. Need to find time to research this...

Starter Button

Auto parts store has this or on line and what it is a push button with 2 wires with alligator clips and one to the big red wire lug on starter and the other on smaller lug on selinoid on starter.

Replace the switch....make sure the new switch carries the amp draw required by Yanmar....the starter draws a huge amount of electricity and amps....switches come with different amp requirements The correct push button switch will prevent switch burn out

I've same problem. Its not the switch, its likely the connector at the engine. Open it and spray contact cleaner. If that don't work run a beefier wire from the switch to the starter solenoid.
