Hot water tank re-fit?

I am installing a complete hot/cold pressure water system in my Pearson 322.The hot water tank I bought is for heat exchanger/110 volt systems. The Volvo MD2D diesel does not have a heat exchanger.Can I run raw water exhaust through the hot water tank to heat the water? or will this heater not work for me.I got a really good deal on this heater from Boat/US (my son works there during summer) and would like to find a way of making it work while underway.Thanks for your replys.Steve,s/v NOETA (P323)

The hook ups to your water heater are likely about 3/4 inch, much too small to handle the volume required by your engine. And, the temp of your raw water wouldn't even be close to the 160-180 degree range required.
