There Must Be...

...a pit cock at the lower left of the front side that you can open and drain into the bilge. There is also a vent valve on the upper, right front side that has a lever that can be flipped open to vent it as it drains. Then, disconnect the two hoses on the front side (cold in, hot out) and connect them to one another. This will save you a couple of gallons of pink stuff when you winterize the water lines. By doing this, you will remove thr HW heater from the fresh water loop. Just be sure the WHeater is well-drained and leave the pit cock and vent open over the winter. Good Luck

Water Heater

I have a 2000 H340 and can never get all of the water out of the water heater. There is a drain valve on the lower front of the heater but even with the drain valve open and the pressure relief vave open, I still have water coming out of the cold water inlet and hot water outlet. This year I blew into the hoses and got about a gallon out but I feel that there is still water in the tank. I always add at least a gallon of the pink antifreeze directly to the water heater to save it from freezing. BTW - Greetings from Brielle. We keep our boat down in Forked River.

Hi John from Brielle

Keeping our 340 at Manasquan River Yacht Club for the winter. We have a couple of gripes that we are working off slowly. Would love to use you as a sounding board. 1. Anchor and stemming light do not work. 2. sea water temp guage inop. 3. had a couple of very small spacer type black noodle washers fall out of the ST-4000 auto-helm. Also the three brackets holding it to the wheel are cracked and will be replaced. Wish there was someone local to look at the ST-4000. 4. Still cannot find a drain for six gallon hot water tank. Just as easy to put another six gallons of pink into the syestem and bleed the hot water. 5. Not sure that the rig is properly tuned. Not sure I am smart enought to re-tune it. 6. the cockpit table leaf on starboard side is missing the magnet/velcro attachment to the helm station to hold the leaf in place when not in use. Call me anytime if you need help with your boat. Where are you keeping her for the winter? Bob Beavis 732 449-9126

hot water drain

I have a 2000 340. I might be doing this wrong but I've always done this by running cold and hot water spigots until both are dry. Then I put about 12 gallons of antifreeze into the main water tank, turn on the hot water till it comes out pink on all spigots and then do the same for cold. I figure it must work ok since the main tank feeds the hot water heater. No need to drain them of the antifreeze is there? Ludy

340 hot water tank winterizing

Ludy, I have looked and looked at our 98 340 hot water tank and there is no drain on the unit. It is a six gallon tank and if I disconnect both the in and out lines it would only dump about 1/2 the fluid and it would not go directly into the bilge but would eventually work its way there. I agree with you, just bought 11 gallons of pink and will do just what you did. In the spring will flush the system until clear water flows. Thanks. bob

From your description, there may be several differences between our boats, starting with the water heater. Nonetheless, I may be able to offer some advice. The local Hunter dealer is Waypoint at Ocean Gate Marina at the mouth of Toms River in Ocean Gate, NJ. I know that they have a team that will come to your boat and tune your rig and troubleshoot other problems. You can contact George White at 732-237-3311 for more information - tell hime I referred you. On my boat, I can access the mast wires by removing a panel at the top of the mast support post. You can test for voltage and continuity. You might want to try to conact Hunter Marine and see if they still stock some of the small items you need. My boat is on the hard at Silver Cloud Marina in Forked River. I will give you a call sometime.
