Hot water on hunter 29.5

hi guys,
I have a hot water switch on my boat... Was wondering - does the engine need to be running for the water to get hot?

In my hunter 306 the water heater will work on shore power with the water heater switch on the panal or while the engine is running.

That switch will likely activate an electric heater element when the boat is connected to shorepower. When underway and the engine is running, heat from the engine is transferred to water in the heater tank. The electric element and the heat exchanger can operate independently from one another or together if you run the engine while at the dock.

The 29.5 has a circuit breaker on your AC panel for the water heater to work off shore power. The engine coolant also circulates through the water heater and will heat the water while underway.
