Winterizing our H280 fresh water system includes bypass and draining the hot water tank. This got me to thinking, if we don't use the hot water anyway, can we just leave it bypassed and would this reduce the potential for sulfur smell in the fresh water system? I have read other threads that indicate the hot water tank is often a contributor to the smell.

The sulfur smell can be a result of other causes but the most common is degradation of the heating element and anode inside the heater tank. Bypass the tank and you have one less source.

The short answer to your question is yes.
Part of my winter decomm is bypassing and draining the h/w heater. (I reconnect in the spring.)
