Sail magazine reports that the new Discovery 55 has a hot tub on board! Apparently the well around the helm station is plumbed with a hose from the hot water heater and can be converted from steering cockpit to hot tub at the flip of a switch. I think every boat should have one of these, don't you? Might help lure some of those reluctant spouses out on the water. Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Joshua Slocum is rolling in his grave

His book and Henry David Thoreau caught my imagination. A simple lifestyle close to nature almost spirtual. Sure throw in some beer and bikini's but a hot tub??? Actually my simple desires are enforced by a tight budget. But even if I had unlimited resources the simple more ascetic lifestyle has appeal to me. My wife insists that I fix the hot water shower on our boat...decadent but reasonable. But a hot tub??? Does it have a sauna??? Just imagine you can hang your foul weather gear in the sauna so that you never have to climb into it cold and wet!!!! And a huge water bed with motion control.

Tom,

Please fwd. all of your GREAT ideas to Hunter. 'Bout time they offered comfortable sail boats for real men instead of for those diehards that insist on being wet, cold, & miserable. Hummm.... wonder if the hot tub on the Discovery 55 comes w/ a flat screen tv......

Is that a boat or a condo?

What happens when you heel that sucker over to about 30 degrees and the water sloshes out? Not to mention your margarita?

Heater Size

Where in hell are you going to put a water heater large enough to heat all the water going into that thing? The cockpit might get a little chilly waiting for the water to heat. I'll pass.

Only in August

since my cockpit drains are always clogged, it only takes a good hot month to enjoy mine.

everyone can have a hot tub

I'm not making this up - I believe that on the East Coast in some areas in the summer they have a problem with jellyfish so alot of folks use a sort of inflatable kid pool with a deep bottom that gets thrown into the water off the stern. Run the engine while the pool is floating there and it fills with warm exhaust salt water from your engine exhaust - voila - a floating hot tub, just don't try it at this time of year. :)
