Hiee,

I spent Saturday and Sunday on the boat. It was to calm to do anything Saturday so I just lounged around lol. Sunday after getting breakfast and cleaning up the sun finally broke thru. My surf forcast for Martinique beach showed 0.4 meter seas and wind in the 15 knot range so I dedided to motor out. You have to be out about 3/4 of the way before you can actually see the mouth of the inlet. Low and behold it was a solid bank of fog :cussing:so that ended that idea. The tide was on the out on the way back in. The outboard was in the up position which allows me to idle around at about 2 knots or so and not have to hassle with getting it lifted to sail. This did not work out well as there is a very narrow spot in the inlet which I call the 'cut'. This is the first time I have motored in against the tide thru there. It was no fun as the tide was running at about 2 knots or slightly better and I was making little and at time reverse headway  not to mention having to deal with the eddy currents tossing the bow from one side to the other. I finally got thru ( about 1/2 nautical mile ) after fighting it for nearly an hour. Lesson learned lower the outboard or wait for the incoming tide :).

Here is a picture of the sunset Saturday night.

Nice story. Can't you just pop the outboard down, even when it's running? Or did you just like being out on the boat :):):)

I did the same on the Cape Cod Canal. The current at the East Inlet can be 4+ knots and scary if the wind is right. Swirling and big waves. I've felt like a ping pong ball in a toilet there before. We motored about 15 minutes to the Sagamore bridge before realizing that the headway was way too easy. It took an hour plus to make the way back to where we started at full throttle with my 9.9 pushing. We were watching people walking faster that us. That little motor earnrd its dinner that day. When I read the blogs about motor size and how much HP is needed I know that I would run nothing less that the 9.9. I alway put the motor down. Ive walked to the bow and the whole thing comes out of the water when it is up.

It was hot and sweaty here this weekend too. Lots of wind though. 60+ miles in Narragansett bay this weekend. Great moonrise!!
