Horizontal Windlass Install in Anchor Locker - Hunter 30

I am considering the idea of trying to mount a horizontal windlass into the anchor locker on my 1990 Hunter 30. Does anyone have the dimensions of the anchor locker for this boat available? I'm not sure if I have the height in the aft part of the locker to do this. I'm currently looking at the Lewmar 1000H windlass as a possibility. I know the chain would not have a vertical drop, but after looking at the Passage 42 windlass, I may be able to get away with sending the chain/rode maybe 145-degrees around the gipsy with a helping hand to feed it upon retrieval.

Thanks Shaun! I did look at your thread previously and was seriously thinking about going that same route. My concerns were about the power draw the electric windlass would be on my existing batteries (only 2x Group 31 batteries for a total of 210AHs). So, I was thinking about adding a third battery maybe under the port settee for an electric windlass. The total cost would be around $1500 USD though. I instead opted to install a Lofrans Royal horizontal manual windlass into the anchor locker itself. I just bought one off eBay from the UK for a great price (new they run $1100 USD here in the States). I am just hoping that I have the height in the aft part of the locker to install this without having to modify the lid. The height of this unit is 192mm. I plan on adding a stiffing plate of starboard - HDPE on the underside (this would be out of sight in the vBerth because the 1990 H30 version has a wood enclosure around the anchor locker in the ceiling of the vBerth. If this all does not quite work out as I anticipate, I will likely go the same route you did with the vertical windlass mounting. Thanks for the reply!
