1st 60 Day Report
27 December 20051st 60 DaysHope all the Forum Members had a glorious Christmas in the company of family and friends. Just 60 days ago I had a great opportunity to purchase my first sailboat. I did not know what I was doing, a new toy, but after some internet research and a few years of Power Boating, I found a boat in great shape and the seller really made the experience first class…It was a winner boat deal…..Got kind-off- drunk after doing the papers tags and titles, hired a cool looking dude that lives on a sailboat at the marina and he single handed drop the mast and off I was running westbound, in tow, and late for a Halloween Party. Got home 10 hours since leaving for work, “with a sailboat that I picked up on the way back from the beach”, comment which allowed me to enjoyed a very quiet and tranquil Halloween and the week thereafter……Had to run new halyards, bought them like 5 feet too short, no problem, lets sail, its Halloween,,,,,, Up went the mast, with some neighborly help and a few Chiropractic hours of adjustments , she was launched with a crooked mast…..Thought it would be like a Hobbie Cat, kind off…………Not… The 1st 60 days culminated Spending Christmas Eve camping on the boat, BBQ, Huge Party on her and returned home in 44 degree weather, which is unusually cold for us down here. Warm and dried up after a wonderful Christmas Eve on the water. After Sunday Services, she came out of the water, in one solid piece standing tall. I am really proud on the old boat, She is a great learning boat and you can push her...Got the new radio and GPS to work, found the NMEA cables and the GPS Ops Manual, that helps…… Waiting on filling all the FCC forms to register the radiotelephone….Going to paint & touch-up the spreaders/boots, run the radio cable up the mast, change some things around to my taste, and put the new tiller on, been steering with a 2 X 4 since Thanksgiving.....but I will leave the fenders hanging over the side.....lol Maybe Tampa Bay / St. Petersburg late January if there is no red tide…. I will make that my next 60 day report and maybe I will come up with a name for her…….I want to thank the Gentlemen that came to and sailed with me, in the cold and rain, I really appreciate it. I learned a lot……..Fair Winds into 2006……FrankOrlando, Florida
