I have a 1977 Catalina 27 with a Hood single line roller furler. I had my mast come down this past summer. I believe the roller furler extrusion pieces are ok except for the splice joints for the extrusions for the furler.
How does one remove the extrusions. There are 2 rivets or something like that at the bottom and top of each extrusion piece. I want to replace these splice pieces.

i think you have to drill out the rivets very carefully ...i would like to see a pic of the joint to make sure my advice is sound...my hood sections interlock as it is loaded on the the forestay cable and has no rivets ...if you can repair it do so that is still one of the best ever made

i don't think that is pop rivets looks more like push pins that are spring load...try to compress them in to the foil and see if they go if so do that and separate the sections one piece at a time

That's what I thought they were also. They don't move. Real solid. They are not pop rivets at least none I've ever encountered. I am thinking of drilling them out.

you need to wait and do more research on this ...try contacting the hood people or search for an owners manual on that model don't drill till you read it somewhere in a factory document ...patience is your friend here

you may even have to spray so kroil on the joints and let them sit a day or two to make the pins moveable

I also have a hood Furler. Mine was a single line furler, converted to an 800 drum type. My advice is don't drill out those pins unless you really have to. Most of the parts for older Hood units are considered obsolete by Hood, & they no longer manufacture many of these parts. I had the upper plate on my furler break in half while under a heavy load in 25 knot winds. It was an ABS plastic plate & met its maker. I contacted Hood & all of their subsidiaries only to hear that most older Hood parts are no longer made or sold. This is because they don't support furlers more then 10 years old anymore, cause they want to sell you a new one. Unfortunately not everyone is as friendly as Catalina Yachts to do business with. I had my Hood furling drum plates replaced with heavy gauge stainless steel plates that kick the ass of the original Hood ones. Now I could stand on the furler, if I wanted to.
