Need some help from the forum. I have a Catalina 30 tr and upon installing the mast yesterday the head stay won't drop down the tube enough to grab and pin to the bow.. No matter how hard I pull it stays up inside the tube.. It seems free oddly enough. Yard is going to charge me big time to fix it.. I'm at a loss.!

Thanks for any help.

fixed it.. basically needed horsepower to pull it down.. luckily i was able to get a strong nylon line through the end and pull with enough force to yank it down. i'm guessing the turnbuckle got caught between the larger and smaller tube connection where a pin keeps them together..

here's what i did..

wrap a halyard around the entire furled tube all the way to the bottom. pull with the winch to get all weight off of the turnbuckle, walk the assembly back to the cockpit for some room to work. then get a nylon line through an eye, use a block of wood and a pair of vice grips to pull on the nylon line.. and POP she came loose and dropped down.

repair bill averted.
