I am considering doing the upgrade on the Hood line drive system to a single line. Can anyone who has done this let me know how difficult it is to change over and are the results worth the effort. Also is the 91 37.5 a Hood 800 series furler? Thanx in advance Mike

Mine was upgraded

My 800 was already upgraded when I acquired my boat. I had a continuous line system on my other hunter and it was okay... but I love a single line drive unit. I installed a brake on the toe rail so that I can easily lock the furling line where ever I wanted it held.... makes for very easy and reliable reefing the genoa.... I can not imagine reefing this sail with a two line system in a justy 20-25 knot setting... there's my 2 cents worth.

mine too

I have an 89 Legend 37 which I bought about 5 years ago. At that time, Hood provided the conversion kit from continuous to single line and the broker arranged for the labor. Recently the furling line broke when reefed in 30 knots of wind, and it broke at the point where it was decored. I replaced it with a line/wire rope, with the wire rope around the drum. No problems so far.

Yes, it's worth it.

I replaced mine and it is definitely worth the cost. The only problem I had was that after removing the old drum, I found that the next piece of aluminum furling tube was also damaged and had to be replaced. Due to my limited abilities, I required the services of a rigger to get it off.

Metaphors...

Whether its worth doing or not is like the old addage about putting a new saddle on an old horse. In the end you still have an old horse. In this case, it would seem only to be worth it if you think the old parts remaining in your original furling system (i.e.,upper swivel, foil, etc.) are going to last as long as the new parts you upgrade with. Everything wears out. Everything has a mean time between failure. Connect the dots.
