Can anyone direct to me to a technical support site or phone number for Hood's roller furling rigs? This is, I believe, an old rig because it appears to have been standard issue on my 1982 Hunter 27. The information I have so far is that it is a Hood system, it uses a continuous loop of 7/16 braided line, and it is referred to as either the Direct Line system of the Line Drive system. I need to replace the line, which has aged to failure, and I am looking for advice or tips (e.g. how to make an end to end splice that is good enough to go through the furling gear?).

Replaced Mine This Year

I replaced the continuous loop on my roller furler this spring. I used 7/16 Sta-Set line from New England Ropes. On their web site (www.neropes.com)they have instuctions on how to make a Double Braid Constant Diameter Splice. I bought a small piece of rope to do a practice splice first. All that is needed for the splice is a splicing kit with the correct fids. I got mine at the local West Marine store. Remember that the splice has to be done on the boat after it has been run thru the furler and all blocks. Used mine all season with no problems. Below is a link to their web site. Good Luck.
