I am currently/actively looking to buy a Catalina 30, 83-88 model year. I have noticed many have a Hood 2 line(continuous) feed mechanism. My question is, is this style reef-able or is it an all or nothing type?

Hi Mark That furler allows you to reef whatever amount you wish. The only draw back is you must have the proper size line to avoid slippage. I had one on a Capri 26 and it worked very well. fair winds Dave

Good info

Thanks for the fast response. We are really excited about getting a larger boat. We currently have an older MacGregor 26 in a slip. We want to put the Catalina at the lake and keep the Mac for the 3 or 4 coastal trips we do to Cape Lookout.

Pompanette sells an upgrade

to your continuous line Hood furler (LD-810) that converts it to a single line reefer. Although you can reef the continuous line hood furler, it is designed as a furler, not a reefer, and is marginal at best for reefing due to both the slipage mentioned previously, but also to the strength of the splice that makes up your furling loop. The upgrade from the LD-810 (the one that you probably have) to the SL-800 system is $575.75, and you can install the upgrade yourself. Steve (Formerly) Alchemist '87 C-30T (with LD-810)
