I have a 1995 Hunter 37.5. The bearings in my Hood 810SL are good. But I had to use a vise grip to hold the furler up to reduce the friction and furl the headsail. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this! On a side note, I hate having the furling drum below deck.

Pompanette has the parts for it. Below is the part I needed to replace. Mine was broken, but it was not too expensive.

I checked the centering clamp, tightened and that did not help. I am going to call Mary at Pompanette this am. Thanks everyone!

The centering clamp fell out in pieces on mine. If it's any consolation, the drum can slide up far enough to work in there without disconnecting the stay. They can give you instructions on how the release the drum.
